Lochlea Harvest Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml Bottle

Tonight, I’m back (virtually) at the recently-established Lochlea distillery in the Scottish Lowlands for their second release, Harvest Edition First Crop, which is aged in a combination of port, oloroso sherry, and bourbon casks. Immediately upon popping the cork, the aroma of ceral grain fills the air – like freshly cooked oatmeal. On the palate, it opens with ripe strawberries, red apples, and sweet ripe pears, which evolve into soft flavors of violet, vanilla, and milk chocolate, then a strange combination of toasted marshmallows and grapefruit, with just a hint of lime zest, that really works well together – surprisingly. This is a light and fresh dram that I’m enjoying more than the Our Barley. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
